A sedentary fish that shows a preference for relatively warm waters, with abundant vegetation and little current. Its attractiveness for sport fishing led to its entry into Spain back in 1955. Since then it has acclimatized easily to most of the swamps, lakes and slow stretches of fast-flowing rivers.
